The Miyata 1000 was considered by Sheldon Brown to be "the finest off-the-shelf touring bike available at the time" and I can see nothing to disprove that statement. It's like being with an old friend - it feels comfortable, relaxing and you forget about time when you're with it. I tried to stay true to the original spirit of the bike so most parts are vintage 1980's from Japan. I assembled everything from the frame up in my small jr. one bedroom apartment in Virginia and used quality greases that were made for specific purposes (such as rock n' roll's web grease for the hubs, the supercoat for the stems, boeshield for the frame, prolube for the chain and beeswax for any threads). This photo was taken at the Tidal Basin in Washington DC during the first week of April 2007 - right when the sakura (cherry blossoms) were in bloom. The bike has actually been modified since these photos were taken, so what is on the list may differ slightly than what you see in the photo.
